ABOUT THE SCHOOL

  • Established by Tina-Louise in 2001, the school provides genuine instruction in Egyptian Belly Dance and Hawaiian Hula.
  • The school currently runs over ten weekly Belly Dance classes at more than six venues across Buckinghamshire, UK.
  • Hawaiian Hula classes for beginners are available at the High Wycombe venue. Tina-Louise is one of only a small number of teachers in the UK providing genuine regular Hawaiian Hula instruction.
  • NEW FOR 2012: Just Jhoom! Bollywood inspired dance and fitness classes. Tina-Louise has trained with the UKs first and only accredited Bollywood style Dance-Fitness instructor training programme, and will be launching classes for all abilites in early 2012. See Just Jhoom! These are perfect for those looking for easy to follow dance-fitness classes, rather than structured lessons.
  • Students vary in age from infants to senior citizens, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Whatever their reasons for joining everyone is encouraged to progress at their own pace and achieve their best.
  • All classes are instructed by Tina-Louise and thus the teaching is consistent.
  • The school has an in house performance troupe The Bellyrinas® who perform at many events throughout the year.
BELLY DANCE
  • Belly Dance comes under the collective heading of Middle Eastern Dance, which describes a variety of dances descended from the Middle East and found mainly throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of the Mediterranean, but also around the globe.
  • Born in the ancient Harems, and among travelling Gypsies and Desert Tribes, performed by women, usually for women, as a form of exercise, education, communication, spiritual worship, and entertainment, at it's core is a physical celebration of the female, and an expression of her powerful role in humanity; fertility, birth, and of course sexuality.
  • It has been passed from generation to generation, teaching girls about womanhood, and preparing women's bodies for pregnancy and childbirth, the earliest form of antenatal class!

BELLY DANCE BENEFITS

  • Belly Dancing is a wonderful exercise suitable for all ages, shapes and sizes, and is becoming increasingly popular around the world as an alternative way to keep fit.
  • The movements are gentle and non to low impact, and therefore very unlikely to cause discomfort or injury.
  • It is often recommended by health practitioners as an aid to recovery from injury, and to help back problems, arthritis and other medical conditions. The dance is also beneficial during and post pregnancy.
  • Belly dancing helps to relieve physical and mental tension, aids digestion, tones the entire body, improves stamina, posture and body shape, keeps you supple as you grow older, and is a creative outlet that allows you to express yourself and your emotions.
  • Many women find learning this sensuous, feminine dance an extremely liberating experience.

THE BELLY DANCE CLASSES

  • Tina-Louise teaches mainly Egyptian Cabaret style Belly Dance, although other influences and styles are incorporated, particularly in the more advanced classes. Please note Tina-Louise does not teach American Tribal Style.
  • The Belly Dance classes are run as termly courses and are very carefully structured. They are not run on a drop-in basis. You must be prepared to commit to a course and try to attend all the classes.
  • Students start with an Absolute Beginners course, then advance through the levels. Progressors/Improvers classes are ongoing throughout the year at the same venues. The school has 4 terms a year, and continues to run through school summer holidays.
  • Classes are genuine, authentic Belly Dance instruction. Students are advised these are structured lessons, and not simply Belly Dance style fitness classes.
  • Classes have a friendly, supportive and non-competitive learning environment.
  • Those who wish to attend while pregnant or to help with health problems and injuries are welcome.

HOW TO JOIN THE BELLY DANCE CLASSES

  • If there is a course listed below that you wish to take, please call or email as soon as possible to get full course details - PLEASE SUPPLY YOUR POSTAL ADDRESS. (Details are sent by post as a security measure because not all enquiries are genuine).
  • All newcomers to the school are required to attend an 'Absolute Beginners Level One' course. These take place throughout the year but enrolment times vary according to venue. Forthcoming courses are listed below.
  • Those with previous experience are also required to take this course because there are many different styles of Belly Dance and teaching methods used. The course will familiarize you with Tina-Louise's style, and allow her to assess your experience.
  • The full course information includes maps for all venues. Once received you may pre-book your place on your chosen course. You will need to complete and return a booking form and Health & Safety clearance form to confirm your place.

HAWAIIAN HULA

  • Please note this IS NOT Hula Hoop, this is genuine Hawaiian Hula, the native dance of Hawaii. A dancer illustrates the words of a song or chant with their hands and arms, while keeping beat with footsteps, and making movements with the hips and lower body.
  • Hawaiian Hula features muscular movements of the lower body which provide an intense toning workout for legs and bums.
  • The hand and arm gestures require complete concentration, and are very graceful and calming, so can really help to take your mind off everyday stress and troubles.

THE HAWAIIAN HULA CLASSES

  • Some Belly Dance experience (any style) can be really helpful as many movements are a subtle variation of basic Belly Dance movements. However beginners with no Belly Dance experience are welcome.
  • The Hula classes are run as periodic four week courses, each course will teach a new 'mele' (song). Courses are graded according to difficulty.
  • Classes are genuine structured lessons in Hula, not simply 'Hula Style' exercise.

HOW TO JOIN THE HAWAIIAN HULA CLASSES

  • If there is a course listed that you wish to take, please call or email with your postal address as soon as possible to receive full details, and to book your place.

BOOKINGS & RESERVATIONS

  • Why you should pre-book: There are lists for all courses and as the start date draws nearer they are frequently fully booked with a waiting list in operation. Any course with fewer than a set number of places booked may be cancelled and only those who have booked a place will be notified.
  • Booking: To book your place you will need to pay for the whole course in advance. This is NOT refundable or transferable if you cancel less than 14 days before the start of term, or if you fail to attend, but you do get a guaranteed place on the course. Full details of how to pay are provided in the information posted to you, along with details of the money back guarantee.
  • Last Minute Reservation: In the final 7 days before a course commences, subject to availability, you may be able to reserve a place for the first 'Trial' class and pay on arrival for one class. However this does not guarantee a permanent place on the course as those who pre-pay get priority. Any permanent places that become available are offered according to your position on the list.
  • Joining a course that is underway: Once a course has commenced, latecomers may only join, space permitting, by taking private lessons in order to catch up with the course they wish to join. 4 week courses and Hula courses may not be joined after the start date.
  • Waiting List Procedure: If a course you wish to join is listed as full with a waiting list, you should still contact for full details in order to add yourself to the list. Permanent spaces are offered according to your position on the list, if and when they become available.
